Children of Hurin

So a new (not really) book came out last spring, The Children of Húrin. I haven't read it yet, but it sounds very interesting. I assume this is an expansion on the stories about Hurin, Turin, Tuor, and the lot in the Simarillion and Unfinished Tales, which I thought were some of the most detailed and engaging stories.
Has anyone read it yet? How does it compare to other Tolkien books?
